First Session (30 minutes, probably 1-1, could be tacked on to the beginning of the Second Session)
History of your organisation, what you do, partnership organisation(s), and the befriending role (job description). Complete the application. Send them a link to the Harvard Bias test, asking them to take the race and Arab-Muslim tests, and to immigration advice, asking them to note the outcomes for all of them.
Second Session (2 hours)
Countries of origin, the asylum system / safe routes, Finish asylum form, trauma, hate crimes, bias, Step Forward, Step Back, You Are from a Culture Where, Find Someone, and cultural awareness. (PowerPoint file too large to upload so contact us for a WeTransfer link and adapt.)
Third Session (2 hours)
Fourth Session (2 hours)
Boundaries, including signposting, and self-care. (PowerPoint file too large to upload so contact us for a WeTransfer link and adapt.)
Complete the agreement, go over the policies (see number 5), and the expenses claim form.
Ongoing training (2 hours each time)
Invite speakers in: guests to talk about their experiences, an expert on Female Genital Mutiliation, a session on unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
Have regular socials where befrienders / hosts get to share experiences and concerns and celebrate their efforts.
